Welcome to the launch of our industry newsletter, Bubbles and Buddha! We want to provide a space where you can find resources, tips, trends, encouragement and all things positive as it relates to you in the events and marketing world. You are an amazing, talented and resourceful group. Yet in these times it can be a challenge to find business opportunities, balance your daily routine and explore new ways to take care of you and your loved ones. We hope you enjoy the following shares of what keeps us motivated, sane, healthy and joyful—and we hope you’ll contribute as well.

First things first, give yourself a hug and say thank you. You made it through 2020! And while it was a challenge in so many various ways, there were also silver linings. Did you clean and organize your closets? Pivot your business to adapt in the pandemic? Learn a new language? Start a new sport? Take five minutes right now and write down the positive things that happened or new experiences you opened yourself up to. No experience is too small. You can write in a journal or make a list on your phone. Do it. Now. Then read through that list again. Maybe add a few things that you may have left out. Now close your eyes (no one is watching you) and place your hands on your heart and take some deep breaths. Reflect on those accomplishments, your successes, your tremendous effort, your boundless strength. Be proud of You. We are.

Looking for work? We all have options. We could hold out and wait for the recovery of in person events. But we don’t have to wait. We can be creative. We may need to be a little more flexible. We can look at our talents and see how they can be used in our current industry or how they can be transferred to others. Make sure you are signed up on LinkedIn for current job listings. Don’t be afraid of a full time job opportunity when you are normally a contractor. Or, don’t be afraid of approaching companies that are offering F/T jobs and negotiating a contractor position. Thanks to the pandemic, working remotely full-time is the norm versus the exception - don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. It may be a win-win for the company and you. Consider getting new certifications that support new cross-over skills in virtual events, technical production or digital-marketing. Make sure you are utilizing resources such as FlexJobs, Indeed, Monster, Glassdoor, LinkUp and Snagajob.

If you need help or know someone who needs help bridging the gap in skills or direction, reach out to us at babes@bubblesandbuddha.com. We will use our 50 years of collective experience and industry network to help. If you know of job opportunities, we will post them in an upcoming newsletter and on our social media channels. We will do our best to connect those in need and those looking to hire.

One of our favorite locations to produce experiences is Hawaii. From the deep rooted culture, the brilliant weather, the mystique of the different islands and the stunning paradise that they each represent, it is the perfect setting for connection, inspiration and celebration. We would not think of doing a program on the Islands without the amazing entrepreneurs, Colleen Reyes and Tatiana (Tats) Von Oelhoffen at woman-owned Island Style Innovations. ISI goes well beyond a DMC. They are a talented, creative, professional team of locals that are your seamless connection to each island. They make you feel like family, represent you in the finest light and negotiate on your behalf to bring truly epic events to life.

And while we all patiently await for all travel advisories to be lifted and groups to come together again, ISI has risen to the occasion so that you may bring Aloha to your virtual and hybrid events! They have launched their Ka’ana Collection which provides multiple platforms to bring you and your attendees the Hawaiian culture, musicians, chefs, guest speakers, local flavors and gifts to you no matter where you are in the world. Mahalo!

BRING ON THE ALOHA BABES!

‘Strong people empower other people’, this is the mantra that Heather Anderson, soulcycle instructor, entrepreneur and mom shares at the conclusion of every class. She lives this mantra daily by encouraging and motivating her community of fans and followers (we are major fangirls and have the biceps to prove it) to achieve new fitness goals and embrace joy and gratitude.

Heather grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Nashville to study vocal performance at Belmont University. After a decade in Nashville and singing in every honky tonk in town, she moved to New York (Queens!) to pursue musical theater. In New York she took her first SoulCycle class and fell in love with the bike going nowhere. Eventually Heather had moved to the West Coast and became an instructor in San Francisco. Seven years into teaching at Soul, she embarked on two new chapters simultaneously: her new business MOVE (zoom based workouts) and motherhood (she has a two year old son named Otis).

MOVE was born when the pandemic hit and SoulCycle shuttered. She gave us a safe space to move our bodies, a community connection, and the ability to feel joyful. Starting in 2021, she relaunched the business and now offers 10-min, 20-min, and 45-min on-demand, live, and subscription-based zoom classes (I am an annual subscriber!). As a B+B reader, your first LIVE class is free and you can use promo code BANDB10 at checkout and receive $10 off your first monthly subscription of on-demand classes (only $30 for 30 days of classes!)

BADASS BABE

We are all looking for that next ‘Bingeable’ show. Bridgerton is so last month! Netflix’s Lupin is a fabulous French crime, heist, drama series set in and around Paris. Subtitles or English dubbing required (unless you’re fluent in French) and it is smart, clever, fun, and with Paris as the backdrop the scenery is exactly what we are craving right now. The series consists of 10 episodes, released in two parts. Only 5 episodes are currently available but rumor has it that the next 5 may be released in April.

We asked Sydney Toth, Brand Manager at Viansa, to give us a wine pairing recommendation for Lupin. She recommended Viansa's 2018 Altura Collection Zinfandel, ‘This Zin is full of juicy suspense and delicious twists, luscious notes of blackberry, sage, and a kick of black pepper and will have you hanging onto every last sip (no subtitles required)’. Cheers!

Enjoy a one-time 15% discount on any Viansa wine by using code: BUDDHAABUBBLES
